Friday's livecast will feature the 23rd annual Murphy Cup between cross-town rivals Yorktown and Lakeland/Panas. The game was named after Yorktown lacrosse godfather Charlie Murphy, who wrote a $500 check to kickstart the program way back in 1965.

The Huskers and Rebels are No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in the MSG Varsity WE/HV power rankings. Yorktown is also No. 15 in the MSG Varsity Tri-State Lacrosse Top 20 and No. 18 Under Armour/Inside Lacrosse National Rankings.

The Huskers, who are coming off an 11-6 victory over neighboring Mahopac on Tuesday, have won five straight and are 9-2 on the year. Back-to-back lopsided losses to Long Island powers Chaminade and Smithtown West sparked the midseason surge.

Marquette-bound senior attackman Conor Gately has played the best lacrosse of his life during the five-game stretch, amassing 41 points (14G, 27A) to bring his overall season total up to 63 points (22G, 41A). The Huskers have averaged 15.8 goals a game during run.

Sophomore attackman Connor Vercruysse has also turned it on over the past five games, netting 13 of his 18 goals. Overall, Drexel-bound senior middie Frankie Fusco leads the team in scoring with 32 goals. UMass-bound junior attackman Nick Mariano (19G, 5A) rounds out Yorktown's potent offense.

Defensively, sophomore goalie Austin Graham has been a pleasant surprise. Graham was pushed into duty after starter Zach Reilly went down with an injury against Smithtown West. He made a career-high 15 saves in Yorktown's mammoth 11-9 upset over Darien on April 24. Johns Hopkins-bound junior Trevor Koelsch stands as the Huskers' top defenseman, showing flashes of lockdown potential this year.

Lakeland/Panas — which is coming off a tough 6-4 loss to John Jay-CR on Tuesday — enters with a record of 8-4. The Rebels are 2-2 over their past four games, losing an overtime heartbreaker to Greenwich (CT) on April 21.

As a team, Lakeland/Panas is built around its stingy defense, which is spearheaded by sophomore goalie Michael Zingaro and senior defenseman Mike Kaplan. Despite playing a tough schedule in 2012, the Rebels have relinquished just 5.42 goals a game.

Offensively, West Point-bound senior middie Chris Monteferante leads Lakeland/Panas in scoring with 20 goals and has also added eight assists. Fellow middie Tony Laguerre, who will play at Springfield College, has played the role of playmaker with 21 assists and seven goals. Sophomore attackman Brian Prunty rounds out the offense with 19 goals and 11 assists.
