TEAM CAPSULES: SECTION 1 CLASS C/D

    Children’s Village Hawks
    Coach:
    Michael Graves 6th Season
2010-11 record: 6-12, lost in quarterfinals to Lincoln Hall
Impact players: Anthony Trotter 5’11 Senior Guard; Vance Crichlow 5’7 Senior Guard; Kwasi Morle 6’1 Senior Guard
Rising stars: Kareem Padgett 6’2 Soph, Guard; Xavier Williams 6”1 Junior, Guard; Andre Jones 5’10 Junior, Guard; Jordon Bernard 6’1 Junior, Forward; Tevin Fuller 5’8 Junior, Guard; Shameek Boatwright 6’2 Junior, Forward; Rafiq Shaheed 5’8 Junior, Guard; Roger Owens 6’0 Junior, Forward; Joquan Hill 5’11 Senior, Forward.
Coaches Forecast: “I think if we can overcome our inexperience and limit turnovers, finish plays around the basket, defend and handle the ball. We should be a very competitive team this season in Class C and hopefully make the section tournament. Anthony Trotter is our most experienced player and will be looked upon to provide leadership, scoring, and put other players in the right place at the right time to give us a chance to win games. Kwasi Morle and Vance Crichlow will also be looked upon to provide the team with leadership and provide many intangibles that do not show up on the sheet. This will give our inexperienced players a chance to develop on the court with out putting a high volume of expectation on them immediately.”

    Haldane Blue Devils
    Coach:
    Joe Virgadamo (6th season)
2010-11 record: 14-7 (Lost in Class C championship)
Impact players: Will Hoffman F, 6’6, SR, Elias Lopez G, 6’, SR, Matt Forlow G, 5’10, JR, Henry Heintzman G/F, 6’, JR, Dan Kinnaird, F, 6’3, SR,
Rising stars: Ryan Koval G, 5’10, JR, Peter Hoffman G, FR, 6’1, Chris McGovern G, 6’3, JR; John Rotando G, SO, 5’9
Coach’s forecast: “We had a very successful season last year and hope to get back to the County Center. Our work ethic and leadership has been outstanding. Now we have to apply what we work on in practice and use it in game play. We should have a deeper bench than usual.”

    Keio Unicorns
    Coach:
    Stan Hamlet (2nd season)
2010-11 record: 9-11, lost in Class C semifinals
Impact players: Shempei Konto Sr., G, Yutaro Yamishita Sr., F, Toshiki Hemei Sr., G.
Rising stars: Daiki Hirabayashi Jr., F, Ryota Suzuki Jr., G, Fumiaki Kobayashi, Jr., G
Coach’s forecast: “Last year the team advanced far ahead of expectations, going from 0-18 to 9-11 finally losing to champion Tuckahoe in the semi finals at the County Center. We have lost eight seniors including all league guard Taka Kato, and as always lack of height is a major obstacle. To overcome this Keio will use a pressure defense and a disciplined offense to offset the height deficiency. As is our trademark, Keio will always play hard, never stop running regardless the score and I believe we will surprise some teams along the way. The schedule is much more difficult than last year as Keio will be playing at least 10 Class B teams. Our goal is to get to the playoffs and see what happens from there”

    Lincoln Hall United
    Coach:
    Henry Taylor
    2010-11 record: 11-9
Rising stars: Dyshawn Bailey 5'4, Soph., PG.
Coach’s forecast: “As we do every season, we are starting with an entire new team. We will struggle early, as we have a tough schedule. We should be able to win enough games to put us in a position where we can compete in the sectionals.

    Palisade Preparatory Phoenix
    Coach:
    Sean Stahn (2nd Year)
    2010-2011 Record: 5-13
2011 Playoffs: Lost in Class D Semifinals
    Impact Players: Daby Amieyeofori (6-2), Jr., C; Kade Carnohan-Holder (5-9), Jr., G; Luis Eusebio (6-6), So. F/C; Kevin Sabino-Pena (5-10), So., G; Brandon Tate (5-7), So., G; Fred Truss Jr. (6-1), Jr. G/F; Isaiah Ward (6-3), So. G/F.
    Rising Stars: Jayvahne Hamilton-Alexander (6-1), Fr., F; Vaughn Hill (5-7), Fr. G; Jahnu Newton (5-9), Fr., G; Khristian Rivera (6-5), Jr. F/C; Quinnell Williams (6-1), Jr. F.
Coach's forecast: Despite gaining a year of varsity experience the team is still very young. Battling against mental mistakes will be a major key in having a successful season. Team chemistry and versatility are two strengths the team will depend when facing opponents with more experience.

    Solomon Schechter Lions
    Coach:
    John Rapaport (4th season)
    2010-11 record: 4-15
Impact players: Simon Teich (6-3), Sr. F, Jeremy Kelly (5-10), Sr. G, Sam Evans (6-2), Sr. F, Jason Rozbruch (5-11), Sr. G
Impact players: Craig Rothenberg (6’), Sr. F, Evan Ashley (6-2), Jr., F, Josh Becker (6-2), Jr., F, Jordan Shasha (6-3), Jr, F, Jake Diamond (5-10), So., G
Coach’s forecast: Experience, quickness & team play. The underclassmen are coming off a 12-3 JV campaign in a difficult league last season with mostly A and B schools. Look for that success to carry over with a hungry group of seniors in a newly-formed nine-team league of mostly Class C squads. Practice has been crisp and focused as the seniors know there time is now before they leave Jan. 24 for Poland and Israel. The Lions will run and scrap for whatever they can get while using a disciplined offensive style by sharing the ball. Look for scoring from different sources, including Sam Evans, Josh Becker, Jason Rozbruch and Jake Diamond. Jeremy Kelly will also look to score and handle the ball with Sophomore Diamond. Simon Teich, Craig Rothenberg, Evan Ashley and Jordan Shasha will add bulk, inside scoring and rebounding on both ends.

    Tuckahoe Tigers
    Coach:
    Al Visconti (7th season)
    2010-11 record: 19-4 (Won Section 1 Class C title)
Impact players: Sky Williams 6-1 Sr., G; Justin Nolan 6-3 Sr. F; Shyhiem Nixon 5-10 Jr., G; Tyler Friere 5-11 Sr., G; Mark Raymond 6-5 Sr., F.
Rising star: Kayvon Reid 6-5 Jr., F.
Coach’s forecast: We return a lot of experience from a team that won a sectional title. We hope to extend our defense and create tempo. We have a very ambitious schedule — playing North Rockland, Horace Greeley and Saunders — so our players will be challenged with excellent competition. This is our seventh yr and the first time we had football players from Day 1.
