Division II wrestling: Nanuet stays on top

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Nanuet cruised to a second consecutive Section 1 Division II team title on Sunday at Pace University. They finished with 277 team points, well ahead of runner-up Edgemont.
The Golden Knights had three grapplers take first-place honors in Vinny Skokos (106 pounds), Anthony Calvano (120) and Dan Breit (195). They also had four wrestlers take second and three place third.
Edgemont ended up in second place for the second-straight season by netting 235 points. Brothers Tyler Aslanian (99 pounds) and Trey Aslanian (113) both captured titles for the Panthers. Four Edgemont wrestlers finished in second place.
Putnam Valley placed third and had one champion in John Messinger, who won by pin at 170 pounds. The Tigers had one second-place finisher and four took third.
Croton-Harmon came in fourth and had one champion in David Occhipinti. Occhipinti, a three-time Section 1 champion, pinned Edgemont’s Colin Hopkins in 5:23 and was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler.
Three Pawling wrestlers won Section 1 titles: Scott Porter (152), Oliver Mold (182) and Matt Acevedo (220).
