With the Millrose Games only four days away, you couldn't fault Brianna Nerud and Samantha Nadel if they had wanted to conserve their legs Tuesday night.

But with a county title at stake, the two decided to go all out and were rewarded for their effort.

The distance duo finished 1-2 in the 1,000 meters, the 600 and the 1,500 for North Shore in the Nassau Class B championship at St. Anthony's. Nerud took first in the 1,000 and the 600 and Nadel won the 1,500.

Both Nadel and Nerud will be participating in the High School girls invitational mile Saturday at the Armory. While the two will race for individual glory that day, Tuesday night had a completely different focus to it.

"It's all about the team right now," Nerud said.

"We wanted to get as many points for our team as possible tonight," Nadel said.

In their first event of the night, the Vikings' trio of Nerud, Nadel and Liz Caldwell held off Tristynn Mercedes of Clarke in a close four-way finish. Nerud took first in 3:07.24 and Nadel finished second in 3:07.29. Caldwell followed in 3:07.31, and Mercedes rounded out the pack in 3:07.44.

The 600 and 1,500 were a little easier for Nerud and Nadel. Nerud won in 1:34.96, while Nadel clocked a 1:36.34. Nadel won the 1,500 in 4:46.62, and Nerud finished second in 4:46.72.

"We just focused on trying to come in the top two in each of our races," Nadel said. "So we had to spread out our energy a little."
