Livecast primer: SCHSHL doubleheader
Question: What’s better than a hockey game?
Answer: Two hockey games.
MSGVarsity.com presents a Suffolk County HS Hockey League Wednesday night double header from The Rinx in Hauppauge. First, Kings Park/Commack will take on Half Hollow Hills at 7:50 p.m., followed by St. Anthony’s facing off with Northport/Huntington at 9:20 p.m..
Kings Park/Commack enters this contest with a 6-3-1 record and have not lost in its past two contests. The combined team relies on a heavy dose of senior leadership as they boast 15 seniors on its roster.
Matthew Goldberg leads the charge on the offensive front and is KP/C’s leading scorer with 11 goals and 11 assists in ten games. Not close behind Goldberg in the team’s scoring race is defenseman Christopher Zaverdas with seven goals and assists.
On the other side of the ice, the Hornets of Half Hollow Hills find themselves tied with their opponents in points (14) and sport a 6-4-0-1 record. The Hornets are coming off a 3-2 win over East Islip and are led by senior forward Jake Bichko (11 goals, 4 assists, 15 points).
In the second half of our double-header, the Friars of St. Anthony’s are led by dynamic forward junior Michael Vaiano, who sports 12 goals and 5 assists on the season. Expect to see James Moulton manning the cage (2-2-1, 3.90 GAA)
Northport/Huntington has had a rough go-around this season and have only amassed two wins against its nine losses. Its most recent loss came against last year’s state finalist, Arlington in which the Tigers fell 6-0. Like our first contest, Northport/Huntington is loaded with seniors on its roster –15 infact. Joseph Schrom will get the start, but don’t be surprised if backups Bryan Deschamps and Paul Napolitano see some action.
