NJ field hockey county finals roundup
PASSAIC COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
West Milford 3, Wayne Hills 1
Samantha Browne scored three goals and West Milford cruised past defending champion Wayne Hills, 3-1, in the Passaic County field hockey title game on Saturday. Rachel Linzalone, Stacie Csakvary and Nicolette Rich notched assists for the Highlanders, who improved to 16-1 and erased the bitter memory of falling to Pompton Lakes in the semifinal round last season. Jenna Bednarovsky turned aside 10 shots in goal. Delaney Burns tallied for Wayne Hills, which failed to repeat as champions and fell to 14-4-1.
SOMERSET COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Bridgewater-Raritan 5, Bernards 0
Rachel Yaney and Catherine Caro each scored two goals as Bridgewater-Raritan won its fourth consecutive Somerset County field hockey championship on Saturday. The Panthers have appeared in eight straight title games and have won six of those. Kayla Sullivan also tallied for Bridgewater-Raritan. Bernards fell to 11-4 on the season and lost for the fourth straight time in this contest.
MORRIS COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Madison 3, West Morris 1
Lexi Dellavia provided enough punch for her team to celebrate. Dellavia netted two goals and Skyler Oates added another as Madison defeated West Morris, 3-1, to clinch the Morris County field hockey championship crown on Saturday. The Lady Dodgers have caught fire at the right time, winning five consecutive games during this crucial stretch, and produced enough to capture a fifth title in six years and 17th overall. Erin Gutkind scored for West Morris, which fell to 14-2 and had its 11-game winning streak halted.
