A pair of all-too-familiar Northwest Jersey Conference foes will get reacquainted on Wednesday when Morris Knolls pays a visit to Randolph at 4 p.m.
A year ago, the two teams split their regular-season encounters before Randolph claimed the rubber match with a 12-2 triumph in the quarterfinal round of the Morris County Tournament.
Randolph (1-0) is counting on core of qualified upperclassmen to provide some exemplary leadership through their hitting efficiency. Senior first baseman Connor McMahon (.400, 4 HRs, 32 RBI) pulls double duty as a front-end pitcher who is coming off a 4-0 campaign.
Junior second baseman Andrew Conklin (.409, 20 RBI, 2 HRs) flexed some muscle on Monday with a solo home run as part of a 7-5 victory over rival Roxbury while junior catcher Tom Asbaty chipped in with two hits and a pair of RBI.
Morris Knolls (0-1), the defending NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 1, Group 4 champion, is looking to rebound from a season-opening 5-2 setback to a very good Delbarton squad.
Knolls, which was limited to four hits in the loss, will have to find some offense to win this one and could get a spark from Vinnie Opalewski or Mike Reggion. Each delivered an RBI single on Monday.
