PARAMUS, N.J. – Myasia Jacobs put on quite a show at the recent New Jersey Meet of Champions. However, the Paramus Catholic sophomore is about to get the chance to shine on an even bigger stage.
Jacobs has been selected to compete in the inaugural Youth Olympics in Singapore from August 14-26. The news comes just one week after she won the 100 and 200 at the Meet of Champions for the second straight season.
She ran the second-fastest time in the Garden State’s history in the 100 with a 11.48 mark, and the fourth-fastest time, 23.73, in the 200.
“I was shocked,” Jacobs told MSGVarsity.com at the New Jersey Meet of Champions. “I was shocked because my start was terrible and I didn’t get out good. But I fought to the finish and it was amazing. It’s indescribable to do this as a sophomore. It probably won’t hit me until I’m a senior.”
A native of Paterson, Jacobs will join eight boys and 11 girls to make up the United States' team.
“I’m working hard for that,” Jacobs said.
She earned her spot for this honor by winning the 100 at the qualifying meet in Arlington, Texas on April 3.
