Wayne Valley topples Bloomfield
Anthony Simone set the tone for Wayne Valley on Saturday with a lead-off home run in the bottom of the first inning to send the Indians to a 12-2 victory over Bloomfield.
Wayne Valley, which was coming off a 15-9 victory over Passaic Valley on Friday, improved to 8-4, while the struggling Bengals dropped to 4-7.
Senior standout piticher Brian Kokos pitched 4 1/3 innings and struck out seven, giving up two unearned runs.
"We have a a lot of hungry players on our team that work hard. I knew we were going to have a rough start in the beginning of the season," said Kokos about the Indians 2012 campaign.
"We have a bunch of guys that want to win, and that is all you need."
Kokos left the game in the top of the fifth with one out and the bases loaded. Mike Elia would come in relief and he stuck out the next two Bengals to end the threat.
Eric Van Assen ended the game in the bottom of the frame when he drove in Mike Cornell for the 12th Indians run as the 10-run mercy rule was put into effect.
