Freehold wins Scarlet Cup soccer title
Just a little word of advice for the girls soccer community. If you were about to write off Freehold Township based on the heavy toll graduation took on its roster, you might want to reconsider.
The Patriots, who registered a 14-2-3 mark a year ago, highlighted by a Shore Conference Tournament championship, wrapped up a stellar week at the Rutgers University Team Week by posting a 3-0 victory over West Morris in the Scarlet Cup Championship match on Thursday in Piscataway.
Natalie Savarino, a senior striker who will be counted on a great deal by Freehold Township this fall, was named the Golden Boot as the event’s top scorer and teammate Adrian Vitello, a junior, was tabbed as the top defender. Senior Sara Cobb of Freehold Boro was awarded the Golden Glove as the camp’s top keeper.
It was a clean sweep for Freehold Township, which also claimed the 4 v. 4 team crown.
