Summit, Westfield draw top seeds in Union
Summit, ranked No. 2 in the MSG Varsity New Jersey Power Rankings, and No. 8 Westfield earned the top two seeds, respectively, for the Union County Tournament and, as a result, draw byes until the semifinal round.
Summit (11-0), paced by Rutgers-bound attackman Nick Kilkowski and senior defenseman Will Weber, will seek its fifth straight county title while Westfield (8-3) looks to make a return trip to the final after a surprise loss to Cranford last year in the semifinals. Summit beat the Cougars, 15-2, for the title and then went on to capture the Group 2 state crown and build a state-record 68-game winning streak that was interrupted by Bridgewater-Raritan in the Tournament of Champions final.
New Providence (9-1) earned the No. 3 seed and Oratory (8-3) was seeded fourth, followed by 5-Scotch Plains-Fanwood (7-5), 6-Gov. Livingston (7-4), 7-Johnson (3-8) and 8-Cranford (2-10). Cranford and Scotch Plains square off Tuesday in the first round and will face Oratory May 7 in the quarterfinals in Summit. New Providence and Gov. Livingston battle Saturday in the first round, with the winner facing New Providence Mat 7 in New Providence.
The semifinals will be played as a doubleheader May 10 at Johnson at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. in Clark and the championship is scheduled for May 12 at Johnson at 7.
