Gill St. Bernard's point guard Jaren Sina, one of the most coveted high school basketball recruits in the country, verbally committed to Northwestern on Monday.

The 6-foot-2 sharpshooter chose Northwestern over Alabama, a school to which he originally committed as a sophomore. He opened up his recruiting again in October, but still kept Alabama in the running.

For several months, Seton Hall entered the picture as a possible landing spot, but once Baltimore-based point guard Aquille Carr signed with the Pirates, Sina narrowed his list once again.

Sina, who helped Gill St. Bernard's finish No. 6 in the MSG Varsity New Jersey power rankings in 2011-12, averaged 20 points and 8.4 assists as a junior.

Alongside Bucknell-bound center Dominic Hoffman and Dartmouth recruit Alex Mitola, Sina guided the Knights to a 27-4 campaign that ended in the South Non-Public B title game in March.
