St. Peter's Prep tight end Michael Giacone backed away from his verbal commitment with Rutgers and signed his national letter of intent with Boston College on Wednesday morning.

The 6-foot-5 coveted recruit originally pledged to the Scarlet Knights in July, but when coach Greg Schiano left for the head job of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he opted to switch to his No. 2 choice.

Giacone chose the Eagles over Connecticut and Maryland. He recorded 16 receptions for 217 yards and two scores this past season, during which the Marauders went 7-4 and fell to Bergen Catholic in the Non-Public Group 4 state playoffs.

While his statistics didn't match up with those of fellow top-flight Division I prospects, his size and incredible hands have caused many prognosticators to believe Giacone will be a force at the next level.

Meanwhile, teammates Brandon Napoleon and D.J. Singleton signed their letters of intent with West Virginia and Wisconsin, respectively.

Napoleon, a fleet-footed quarterback, threw for 1,218 yards and 11 touchdowns in a season in which he missed time after suffering a concussion. He chose the Mountaineers over Rutgers, North Carolina, Indiana, Illinois and Connecticut.

Singleton, a linebacker and safety, is ranked among the top 15 at his positions in the nation. He registered 48 tackles in 2011-12.
