MSG Varsity to debut 'New Jersey's Last Patriot'
BETHPAGE, N.Y., June 19, 2012 — MSG Varsity, Cablevision’s 24/7 Emmy Award winning high school network, announced today that it will debut its first originally produced sports documentary, “New Jersey’s Last Patriot,” which chronicles the recruiting journey of Wayne Hills High School’s quarterback and nationally recognized Division I college prospect Kevin Olsen.
Part one of the two-part documentary will debut on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 on Optimum TV Channel 14 at 9:00 PM, and will provide viewers with an inside look at life as one of most sought after quarterbacks in the country as he visits colleges and meets with coaches. The documentary will also reveal what it is like for Kevin to play for his father, Chris Olsen, a coaching legend in New Jersey. The second part of the documentary will premiere in late December 2012.
MSG Varsity’s Michael Quick, a renowned authority on high school sports, narrates the documentary as MSG Varsity’s Steve Levy, former Don Bosco and University of California Berkeley quarterback, travels the country with Olsen as he visits some of the country’s top football schools, including Auburn University, University of South Carolina, University of Miami and University of Wisconsin.
MSG Varsity cameras documented Olsen making his recent verbal commitment to Miami, followed him during off-season training, and captured many aspects of his high school life, including his junior prom.
“We are very excited to kick-off our initial entry into documentary production by providing an in-depth look at one of the tri-state and country’s most exciting athletes,” said Michael Lardner, Senior Vice President and Executive Producer, MSG Varsity. “We are always looking for ways to enhance our coverage of tri-state area sports and student athletes, and this documentary provides our viewers with an up close and personal view that just can’t be captured during a game.”
In advance of the “New Jersey’s Last Patriot” premiere, MSG Varsity has launched www.msgvarsity.com/footballfiles, a site where fans can view exclusive vignettes of the documentary. The site will also provide recruiting news and complete coverage of tri-state area high school football throughout the off-season and summer.
