    Pitman wins Group 1, punches T of C ticket

    In the first half, point guard Darnell Foreman helped Pitman take command of the paint by feeding 6-8 center Tim Delaney on the low block. With that, the Panthers established a two-point lead.

    Newark Tech upends Camden in Group 2 final

    Mustafa A determined Lawrence helped limit Camden to eight points in the fourth quarter and, in the process, located the offensive touch he said was not his most pressing concern. He struck for eight of his team-high 13 points in that frame and rallied the Terriers to a 48-44 win for their second straight NJSIAA/ShopRite Group 2 championship at the Rutgers Athletic Center in Piscataway.

    Hoffman's 31 puts Newark East Side in T of C

    Akbar Hoffman finished with a career-high 31 on 80-percent shooting to direct the Red Raiders past Ewing, 83-56, for their second straight NJSIAA/ShopRite Group 3 championship at the Rutgers Athletic Center in Piscataway.

    Moore, Linden capture Group 4 championship

    Quadri Moore scored 22 points, pulled down 21 rebounds, recorded five blocks and, along with crafty junior guard Otis Livingston, sent Linden past Trenton, 66-53, for the NJSIAA/ShopRite Group 4 championship Sunday afternoon at the Rutgers Athletic Center in Piscataway.

    Roselle Catholic upends St. Anthony in final

    Junior guard Isaiah Briscoe scored 11 of his game-high 24 points in the second quarter to help the Lions maintain a slim lead and erupted for 12 more in the fourth to rally Roselle Catholic past the Friars, 60-57, for its second consecutive NJSIAA/ShopRite Non-Public B title Saturday night at the Pine Belt Arena in Toms River.

    St. Joe's edges St. Peter's in Non-Public A final

    Marques Townes was 4 of 6 from the floor in the second quarter and sophomore guard Breein Tyree was 3 of 6 for seven of his 14 points to keep the Falcons to within 35-32. The big Towns erupted for 19 of his 22 points and Baldwin 13 of his 17 in the second half as St. Joseph (28-2) roared to its eighth consecutive win. St. Joseph, the Tournament of Champions runner-up last year, will await the conclusion of Sunday's four Public finals to learn its seed for the T of C.

    Linden buried nine 3-pointers in the opening half, including four by junior guard Otis Livingston, and Quadri Moore inflicted damage from decidedly closer range in the last period as the Tigers pulled away for a 76-60 upset over Paterson Eastside Thursday night in the NJSIAA Group 4 semifinals at the Dunn Center in Elizabeth.

    Irvington boys hoops coach Robinson resigns

    Eugene Robinson announced his resignation as Irvington head coach Thursday morning, citing mainly his desire to spend more time following the athletic endeavors of his son, Brandon, who will be entering high school in September and is already accomplished in basketball and football, two sports Robinson excelled at for Irvington.
