ALBANY – More than just Long Island bragging rights will be on the line tonight when Long Island Lutheran faces Harborfields at the Times Union Center live on MSGVarsity.com at 7:30 p.m.
More importantly, the winner will be crowned New York State Federation Class A champion.
Long Island Lutheran (22-6) is seeking a second consecutive Class A Federation title after beating St. Mary’s (Manhasset), 78-51, in another All-Long Island final last year.
The Crusaders capitalized on their height advantage to open up a 21-point third-quarter lead before holding on to beat Brooklyn Collegiate, 66-56, in the semifinals Friday night.
Ryan DeNicola scored a team-high 15 points, Kentan Facey had 12 points and 11 rebounds, Brandon Alford had 13 points, including three first-quarter 3-pointers and Chris Atkinson, who began the year on the junior varsity, added eight points and eight assists.
Harborfields (23-2) knocked off Iona Prep, 68-56, in the other semifinal Friday night at the Times Union Center. It was the Tornadoes 20th straight victory since a 55-41 loss to Long Island Lutheran on Dec. 23.
John Patron had 20 points and 10 rebounds, Justin Ringen added 18 points, including four 3-pointers, and Lucas Woodhouse had 14 points for Harborfields, which is attempting to win its first New York State Federation title.
