Top 30 LI Players to Watch: Thomas Dunn
Thomas Dunn stepped up big when big performances were needed.
The Smithtown/Hauppauge foward finished the 2011-2012 Suffolk County High School Hockey League (SCHSHL) season with 14 goals and 17 assists in 18 regular season games, leading his Bulls to a 19-1 regular season record.
But hockey players are defined not what you did in the regular season, but in the postseason.
Dunn stepped up his play when it mattered, scoring five goals and notching five assists in four games in the SCHSHL playoffs en route to a sweep of Connetquot/Sayville in the league finals. With his efforts he was named MVP of the playoffs.
With those performances, Dunn is one of MSGVarsity.com's top 30 players to watch in the 2012-13 school year.
His teammates and coaches had nothing but high priase for the tall foward.
“Dunn was unbelievable. His speed is unreal,” goaltender Thomas Drapala said. “He knows what to do with the puck and has great hands. He’s just an unbelievable player overall.”
His coach, Vincent Granice, echoed the same sentiments.
“He’s a tremendous hockey player,” coach Granice said. “He came up big all year, and a great two-way player. He played his heart out.”
Dunn was named to the 2012 Newsday All-Long Island second team, and most recently participated in the Ferraro Bros. Hockey Showcase in Dix Hills in August.
