    LONG ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIP

    Tuesday, November 13

    (S3) Northport 3, (N1) Massapequa 1

    Kristin Desmond scored two goals and Natasha Albaneze added another as Northport won the Class AA Long Island championship at Dowling Sports Complex.

     

    FINAL

    Sunday, November 11

    (3) Northport 1, (4) Ward Melville 0

    Cortney Fortunato scored off a feed from Emily Columbus to lead Northport in the Suffolk Class AA championship game. Jess Rom had eight saves for Northport and Kayla Kelly had 12 stops for Ward Melville.

     

    SEMIFINALS

    Saturday, November 10

    (4) Ward Melville 1, (8) Commack 0

    Ciara Guglielmo scored the game winner in the 48th minute and the defense held Commack at bay to lead No. 4 Ward Melville (13-3-1) over No. 8 Commack in a Suffolk Class AA semifinal. Ward Melville moves on to face Northport in the Suffolk County Final at 2:30pm on Sunday at Dowling.

    (3) Northport 1, (2) Hauppauge 0

    Kristin Desmond scored the games only goal on a penalty kick with 24:21 remaining in the first half to help lead No. 3 Northport (15-1-2) over No. 2 Hauppauge in a Suffolk Class AA semifinal. Jess Rom made 11 saves in the shutout victory. Northport moves on to play Ward Melville on Sunday at 2:30 at Dowling.

     

    QUARTERFINALS

    Friday, November 9

    (8) Commack 2 (2 OT), (1) West Islip 1

    Erica Pacello scored on a head off a throw-in with 5:17 remaining to lead No. 8 Commack (11-5) over No. 1 West Islip in a Suffolk Class AA quarterfinal. Pacello also scored the games first goal in the first half. Goalkeeper Samantha Miller made 23 saves in the victory. Commack plays at Ward Melville on Saturday, Nov. 10.

    (4) Ward Melville 3, (12) Sachem North 0

    Dani Valente scored a goal and an assist and Tara O'Hern and Jennifer Balzan each added a goal to lead No. 4 Ward Melville (12-3-1) over No. 12 Sachem North in the first round of the Suffolk County Girls Class AA playoffs. Ward Melville moves on the face Commack in the quarterfinals.

    (3) Northport 4, (6) East Islip 3

    Sam Avallone scored the game winning goal on an assist from Kristin Desmond with 7:22 remaining to break a 3-3 tie and lead No. 3 Northport (14-1-2) over No. 6 East Islip in a Class AA quarterfinal. Desmond also scored two goals, including the game tying goal with 20:14 remaining in the game. Northport moves on to play No. 2 Hauppauge on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 1pm.

    (2) Hauppauge 1, (10) Smithtown West 0

    Nicole LoRusso scored on an assist off a free kick by Darla Poulin with 17:08 remaining in the second half to lead No. 2 Hauppauge (15-0-2) over No. 10 Smithtown West in a Suffolk Class AA quarterfinal. Hauppauge moves on to play Northport on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 1pm.

     

    FIRST ROUND

    Saturday, October 27 (at higher seed)

    (8) Commack 1, (9) Deer Park 0

    Erin Neville scored directly off a corner kick with 12 seconds left in the match to lead No. 8 Commack (10-5) past No. 9 Deer Park (10-3) in the first round of the Suffolk class AA playoffs. Samantha Miller earned the shutout with 15 saves, including back-to-back saves on consecutive shots with 15 minutes left in the match. Commack will play at No. 1 West Islip in a quarterfinal match, Wednesday.

    (12) Sachem North 1 (2 OT), (5) Lindenhurst 0

    Courtney Cohen scored the game winning goal off a corner kick by Jessica Mazliah with 3:48 left in the first overtime to lead No. 12 Sachem North (8-5-2) over No. 5 Lindenhurst in the first round of the Suffolk Class AA girls playoffs.

    (4) Ward Melville 3, (13) Half Hollow Hills West 2

    Tara O'Hern scored on a corner kick to tie the game with six minutes remaining and Dani Valente scored the game winner with under four minutes remaining on a shot from 20-yards out to lead No. 4 Ward Melville over No. 13 Half Hollow Hills West in the first round of the girls Suffolk Class AA playoffs. Ward Melville moves onto play the winner of Lindenhurst/Sachem North. Sara Matzelle and Arriana Sabatino had scored in the final minute of the first half and first minute of the second half respectively to give Hills West a 2-1 lead.

    (3) Northport 3, (14) Connetquot 0

    Kristin Desmond broke a scoreless tie with 25 minutes left in regulation in the first round of the Suffolk AA playoffs. Cortney Fortunato scored two goals in the win. Jess Rom made three saves. Northport (13-1-2) will host the winner of Kings Park/East Islip on Wednesday at 2:30 pm.

    (6) East Islip 1, (11) Kings Park 0

    Kayla Saager scored the games lone goal 7:28 into the first half to lead No. 6 East Islip over No. 11 Kings Park in the first round of the girls Suffolk Class AA playoffs. East Islip moves on to play Northport next week.
