Top 30 LI Players to Watch: Ryan Lukacovic
Chaminade has been a staple at the top of Long Island lacrosse for the past few years. In the last two of those years, Ryan Lukacovic has been at the forefront of the Flyers attack.
And he'll be there again.
That's why Lukacovic has been named one of MSGVarsity.com's Top 30 Long Island Players to watch for the 2012-13 school year.
As a junior last season, Lukacovic led the Flyers in scoring with 34 goals and 28 assists, amounting for 62 points as Chaminade finished at 16-2 and runners-up for the fourth straight year to St. Anthony's in New York State.
The Virginia-bound attack stepped things up when it was most needed for the Flyers. An early-season highlight came in the first of three meetings between Chaminade and St. Anthonys. After Chaminade blew a 5-1 lead in the second half and the Friars threatening to take their first lead of the game, the Chaminade attack stepped up.
With less than three minutes remaining Lukacovic ripped an unassisted shot past the St. Anthony's netminder to give Chaminade the 6-5 lead and eventually the win.
The Chaminade senior was named to Newsday's All-Long Island first lacrosse team for his efforts in 2012.
