Field set for Tri-State QB Showdown

On Sunday, June 3 at 12 p.m., 25 of the top quarterbacks from New York, New Jersey and Connecticut will put their skills to the test in Tri-State Quarterback Showdown at New Rochelle HS.

The event is hosted by former New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms, who will judge the competition along with MSG Varsity football analyst Amani Toomer (also a former Giant).

Kevin Olsen, Wayne Hills (N.J.)
The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Olsen, regarded as one of the top signal-callers in America, threw for 1,686 yards and 20 touchdowns during as a junior. Olsen also led the 11-1 Patriots to their second straight North 1 Group 3 crown, the school’s seventh in nine years.

Chris Wright, Bayonne (N.J.)
Head coach Rick Rodriguez introduced more passing into his multiple-I offense to accommodate the overall talents of the lean, sure-footed Wright. He passed for almost 900 yards and nine TDs and also rushed for 583 yards and 11 TDs to direct the Bees to an 8-3 record. Bayonne was 3-7 the previous season. 

Isaiah Diaz-Mays, Union City (N.J.)
This versatile speedster (clocked just over 4.5) passed for 750 yards and 10 TDs and ran for another 700 yards and 10 scores to direct the Soaring Eagles to an 8-3 mark. Two of those losses came in OT, including a 10-7 setback to North Bergen in the North Jersey, Section 1, Group 4 semifinals. He'll be a third-year starter in 2012.

Spencer Aukamp, St Joseph-Montvale (N.J.)
Aukamp stepped into the starting role for coach Tony Karcich as a sophomore and did not disappoint. The 5-foot-10 Aukamp completed 110-of-170 attempts for 1,800 yards and 18 touchdowns for the Green Knights, who won the Non-Public Group 3 title.

John Germano, Bergen Catholic (N.J.)
The Hawthorne native helped Nunzio Campanile's crew reach the Non-Public Group 4 title game for the second straight year. Germano outdid his predecessor, Tanner McEvoy (South Carolina), by registering 2,359 passing yards and 31 scoring strikes.

Connor Rowe, Ridgefield (Conn.)
As a junior, Rowe completed over 64 percent of his passes for nearly 2,000 yards and accounted for 23 touchdowns through the air and on the ground. Helped lead the Tigers to a record of 8-3 and their first state tournament appearance since 2002.

Tyler Keech, John Jay-Cross River (Westchester)
As a junior, Keech was named to the MSG Varsity Section 1 All-Star second team. He led the Indians to an appearance in 2011 Section 1 Class A title game.

Jack Massie, Staples (Conn.)
The first sophomore quarterback to start for longtime coach Marce Petroccio, Massie was named All-FCIAC West after throwing for 1,617 yards with 14 touchdowns and just four interceptions for a QB rating of 122. Also had seven rushing TDs. With Massie under center, the Wreckers won the FCIAC championship and didn't suffer their first loss until the CIAC Class LL title game against undefeated Xavier.

Brian Castlelot, Bunnell (Conn.)
One of the most prolific passers in the state, the All-SWC signal caller averaged nearly 250 yards per game with 29 touchdowns and six interceptions in leading the Bulldogs to an 8-2 record. Castelot, who threw for a school record seven touchdowns in a game as a sophomore in 2010, has passed for 59 scores over the last two years.

Joey Capobianco, Lawrence (L.I.)
Rewrote the record books in the Golden Flashes' 78-61 Class III Long Island Championship win against Sayville last year. Set LIC passing marks for yards (541), attempts (41), completions (27) and touchdowns (7).

Danny Hoffer, Stepinac (Westchester)
Hoffer was rated as the fifth best quarterback in the CHSFL AAA-AA division in 2011. He completed 53 of 117 passes for 1,150 yards and nine touchdowns.

P.J. Walker, Elizabeth (N.J.)
Walker threw for 2,150 yards and 22 touchdowns this past season for the Minutemen. He holds offers from UConn, Temple, Rutgers and UMass.

Mario Biaggi, Iona Prep (Westchester)
In 2011, Biaggi completed 66 of 109 passes for 777 yards and nine touchdowns. He also rushed for 456 yards and eight touchdowns on 113 carries.

Liam O'Neil, Greenwich (Conn.)
After missing the first three games of 2011 due to a concussion sustained in the preseason, O'Neil returned to help lead the Cardinals to their first FCIAC Championship game appearance since 2007. Earned second-team All-FCIAC honors two seasons ago as a sophomore.

Greg Galligan, St Anthony's (L.I.)
Took over midseason for Pete Carew in 2011 and quarterbacked the Friars to their third straight CHSFL title, and 10th in 11 years.

Khalil Edney, New Rochelle (Westchester)
As a first-year starter, Edney led the Huguenots to a runner-up finish in Section 1 Class AA. He was named all-section honorable mention.

Blake Geller, Demarest (N.J.)
6-0, 180. The first-year starter took North Jersey by surprise by turning in one of the state's best junior seasons ever with 3,133 passing yards (168 for 271) and 31 TDs for the 7-3 Norsemen. He passed for 497 yards and four TDs in a loss to Bergenfield and recorded a 369-yard, four-TD performance in a victory over Northern Highlands.

Tyrice Beverette, Lakewood (N.J.)
This program has struggled mightily for years, though Beverette provided numerous highlights and much hope in a 2-8 campaign. The dual-threat QB, with shifty hips and quick acceleration, passed for 1,382 yards and eight TDs and carried for 965 yards and 12 TDs as a junior. He has accumulated more than 1,700 rushing yards in his career and has more than 200 tackles at safety.

Henry Baldwin, Darien (Conn.)
The 6-foot-3 junior signal caller was named first-team All-FCIAC East after passing for 1,884 yards and 27 touchdowns as the Blue Wave finished the season 8-2.

A.J. Otranto, William Floyd (L.I.)
In his second full season under center, Otranto led the Colonials to their fourth Long Island championship in school history.

Ryan Nitti, Half Hallow Hills East (L.I.)
Quarterbacked Hills East to its best season in six years. Threw for 1,290 yards and 12 touchdowns and registered at least 100 yards passing in all but one game.

Devin Ray, Bernards (N.J.)
6-3, 190. The second-year starter completed 120 of 227 for a school-record 2,134 yards and 23 TDs to steer the Mountaineers to a 7-3 mark. He also ran for 339 yards and six TDs. The well-rounded athlete, also a standout lacrosse player, has compiled over 3,100 passing yards and has 31 career TD passes.  He produced two four-TD passing games last season.

Kevin Duke, Ketcham (Hudson Valley)
5-11, 180. Already a two-year starter, Duke is coming off a breakout sophomore season where passed for 1,148 yards and 10 touchdowns in just nine games. He threw only four interceptions in 194 pass attempts.

Antonio Natale, Immaculata (N.J.)
6-2, 200. He's a physically tough athlete who remains remarkably composed under pressure in the pocket, though inflicts great damage when he does decide the scramble. Natale, an effective passer out of the waggle, threw for 942 yards and 11 TDs and ran for 503 yards and eight TDs despite missing two games to injury. He passed for 1,072 yards and 13 TDs as a sophomore. 

Prince Dukes, Curtis (NYC)
A starter since he walked into Curtis High School, Prince Dukes helped guide the Warriors to the PSAL playoffs in back-to-back years. The strong-armed sophomore threw for nine touchdowns as a sophomore.
