Davon Henry got out of the blocks in the 55 Wednesday, looked to his left and saw a blur just barely ahead of him.

He couldn't tell who it was, and he really didn't care. All that mattered was that he was not in the lead. So Henry dug deeper and told himself, "Just go." He went, and the Uniondale senior came away with the victory.

Henry recovered from a slow start to take the 55 in the Nassau Class 'A' championships at St. Anthony's. The senior clocked a 6.55, defeating MacArthur's Andrei Dinoro by .03 of a second.

Henry, who lined up in the fourth lane, didn't get as strong a push from the blocks as he had hoped. That allowed Dinoro to take a small lead in lane three.

"I knew it was either one of my teammates or [Dinoro] in front of me," Henry said. "So I just pushed myself more, swung my arms, and told myself I had to go."

Dinoro held on until about the halfway mark as Henry turned on the jets and blew past him for the win.

"It was all will at that point," Henry said. "I didn't want to lose this one."

Derrick Ingram took third in 6.70 and Tresean Goodwin finished fourth in 6.77 in a strong showing of Uniondale's sprinting depth.

"Having teammates as fast as these guys helps us all stay at the top of our game," Henry said. "We're all pushing each other in practice, so it helps us out when it's time to go."
