Live game primer: Chaminade at Iona Prep

    CHSFL Semifinal
Who: Iona Prep (8-1) vs. Chaminade (8-1)
    Where: Iona Prep
    When: Saturday November 24, 1 p.m.
How to watch: LIVE on MSGVarsity.com

    KEY PLAYERS

    Iona Prep
Mario Biaggi: The senior quarterback is having one of the best seasons in the Hudson Valley region and he’s doing it with his arm and his legs. With a dominant offensive line and an array of weapons, Biaggi makes it look easy for the Gaels.
Chris Cooper: If we had a Heisman Trophy for high school, Cooper would probably win it. The two-way star is a threat to score on either side of the football as a wideout or cornerback.
Michael Barbuto: Arguably the fastest player on the field, Barbuto covers a lot of ground in the defensive backfield.

    Chaminade
Thomas Zenker: As good a pass-catching target as you will find, Zenker seems to score at least once a game.
Tim Muller: One of the Flyers’ defensive leaders, Muller will be called upon to aid the corners in pass coverage from his safety position.
Sean Cerrone: The junior signal caller has managed and great offense all year long for Chaminade. He runs the offense efficiently and can make all the throws. He’s a running threat as well.

    X-FACTOR
Iona Prep: Shaquille Townsend. The senior running back has filled the shoes of a long line of star backs at Iona and dominated the Flyers a season ago with over 200 yards. The Gaels will need another performance like that.

Chaminade: Coach Stephen Boyd. Almost every week the Flyers come out with a big trick play early in the game to set the tone, or a big trick play late to swing the momentum. Chaminade made it happen against Iona back in Week 3 this year.

    MALONE’S PREDICTION
Chaminade mounted a furious fourth quarter comeback in Week 3 to beat Iona and nearly completely another big comeback against rival St. Anthony’s after that. So, the Flyers will never quit, but as great as Chaminade’s defense has looked lately, I can’t see anyone stopping Iona long enough to win right now. I also think the Gaels will shore up their special teams (which killed them early in the season) and hold off Chaminade this team to advance to the CHSFL championship game. Prediction: Iona Prep 31, Chaminade 21
