LI HS Athletes of the Week - 1/20
Melissa Michels, Sachem North, track: The junior qualified for the Millrose Games by placing third in the 55-meter at last week’s trials. Michels ran a 7.34 in the final.
Kathryn Hallett, Manhasset: The sophomore won two events at the Nassau Conference IV championships. She won the 55 meters in 7.77 seconds and the 300 in 43.30.
Chris Belcher, Sayville, track: The senior qualified for the Millrose Games with a victory in the 55-meter at last week’s trials, clocking in at 6.43 seconds.
Kevin Dehaney. Hewlett, track: The senior won two events at the Nassau Conference IV championships. He jumped 19 feet, 6.25 inches to win the long jump and 42 feet, three inches to win the triple jump.
Dalique Mingo, Farmingdale, basketball:. The senior scored a career-high 39 points, including 16 of the Dalers' 18 fourth-quarter points, in a 64-55 victory over Uniondale.
Devante Green, St. Mary's, basketball: The freshman scored 30 points, with six assists and seven rebounds, in a 76-73 victory over Chaminade.
Kelly Bilodeau, Whitman, basketball: She scored 13 points in a 52-20 win over Connetquot, recording her 1,000th career point. Bilodeau added 20 points and 10 rebounds in a 61-43 win over Lindenhurst.
Mikaiya Moore, Copiague, basketball: She had 29 points and 10 rebounds in an 83-60 win over West Babylon and had 22 points and 14 boards in a 53-30 win over Deer Park.
Shantell McCall, Sewanhaka, basketball: The senior had a career-high 30 points, 24 of which came in the second half, and added 11 rebounds and five assists in a 54-44 win over Bethpage.
Caroline Robertson, North Shore, basketball: She set a school record with 32 points in a 77-43 win over Valley Stream South. Robertson broke the Vikings’ previous record of 31 points, set by Kristen Reynolds in 2007. She also had 13 rebounds, eight assists, six steals and three blocks in the victory.
Elijah Rogers, Copiague, boys basketball: The sophomore scored a career-high 37 points in a 78-72 win over Deer Park.
Rebecca Gotterbarn, Sewanhaka District, bowling:
The Carey junior broke the Long Island girls average record, rolling a 702 series in Wednesday's win over Locust Valley to finish the regular season with a 223.5 average.
Melissa Sherwin, Middle Country, bowling: The Newfield senior capped the regular season with a 715 series in a win over Longwood, pushing her season average to 223.2, which set the Suffolk single season record.
Joe Lozano, Garden City, swimming: He won the 200 IM (1:58.4) and the 100 butterfly (54.29) as Garden City beat Great Neck South, 99-79, giving the Rebels their first league loss in four years.
