To say Team USA wanted to make a statement in the quarterfinals is an understatement.
Chaminade alum Matt Kavanagh continued his stellar play throughout the World Championships, potting four goals and adding three assists as Team USA easily rolled past Germany 22-2 in a quarterfinal matchup in Turku, Finland.
Kavanagh now leads all USA players with 16 goals and 7 assists for 23 points in just five games.
Kyle Keenan (Smithtown West) had two goals and two assists, while Joseph Leonard (Hicksville) added a pair of goals and an assist.
Overall, Long Island high school products factored in on 14 of 22 of USA's goals.
Kyle Turri (West Islip) and Zach Oliveri (Connetquot) both split time in net, with Turri earning the win.
Quarterfinal play was unusual territory for the USA National team. Since sanctioned international U19 play began in 1988, USA has never needed to compete in a quarterfinal round. The top two seeds in each division received byes to the semifinals - in USA's case, that honor went to Canada (4-0) and the Iroquois Nationals (3-1).
USA's quarterfinal win sets up a rematch with the Iroquois National team in the semifinal on Thursday at 1:00 pm EST.
The Iroquois Nationals team topped USA for the first time ever in international field competition on Tuesday, 15-13 in the pool play finale.
