Floral Park: Noble Knights
Phi Beta Kappa's 2012 Friends of Education Award recipients: English Teacher Denise Hayden, Assistant Principal Brian Sharkey, and English Chairperson Alice Bowman
Three starry “knights” twinkle in Floral Park as recognition is given to a trio of outstanding leaders. Assistant Principal Brian Sharkey, English Chairperson Alice Bowman, and English teacher Denise Hayden were all honored with Phi Delta Kappa’s “2012 Friends of Education” Award.
This award is bestowed upon individuals who demonstrate ideals of leadership, research, and service in their daily lives.
On June 15, a congratulatory dinner was held for all recipients at Stony Brook University’s Wang Center. Brian Sharkey, Alice Bowman, and Denise Hayden are exemplary leaders who have had a tremendous impact on the Floral Park school community.
Brian Sharkey has provided vital services as an Assistant Principal at FPM for the past five years. His dedication, patience, and attention to detail have enabled him to meet the countless demands required of his position. His superior work ethic and organizational skills are respected and recognized among staff and students.
Alice Bowman has exhibited outstanding ability as leader of the English department for the past six years. She maintains high expectations for both teachers and students, and has guided faculty members in their professional growth. Her ambitions and talents can be seen through her varied accreditations including leading numerous prestigious workshops and receiving National Board Certification.
Denise Hayden has been the epitome of excellence and a true master teacher at FPM for the past twenty-four years. She has consistently displayed her love of teaching, children, and literature and has served as a role model for her fellow educators. In addition, Ms. Hayden has shown remarkable leadership skills as a teacher mentor and College Board consultant.
The Floral Park community is extremely proud of the exceptional achievements of these three individuals. We are fortunate to have these talented educators as members of our staff.
