On Tuesday night, two struggling teams went head-to-head in efforts to close out the season on a high note. The Oceanside Sailors (3-4) took on the Uniondale Knights (2-5) in what was Oceanside’s final home game of the season, and Senior Night as well.
Sophomore Luke Schwasnick scored six goals. Senior John Grassi scored two goals and senior John Ramalho tallied a goal as well. Junior Ryan McCarthy had two assists.
The Uniondale Knights dominated play early on, maintaining possession of the ball for the first five minutes of the first quarter. But as soon as Oceanside was able to gain possession, their offensive skill kicked in.
Senior Andrew Failla was superb in net, making 16 saves in total despite consistent offensive pressure from the Knights. This was Failla’s last home game as an Oceanside Sailor. Next year, he will take his talents to The University of Tampa, where he will play Division II lacrosse for the Spartans.
Despite the struggles of the early part of this season, the Sailors have won three of their last four games.
The Sailors will take on the 7-0 Massapequa Chiefs this Friday at 5pm at the Field of Dreams in Massapequa.
