What's a three-and-a-half hour drive in between two games in two days?

Travis Cook showed no ill-effects of a long drive to Uniondale as he potted 14 points and pulled down six rebounds as Middletown downed South Side, 69-47 in the first game of the Upstate/Downstate Tournament.

Cook was awarded the Most Oustanding Player reward for his efforts.

Middletown jumped quickly on a very young South Side team in the first half by churning out a 25-9 run against the defending Nassau County Class A champions to take a 40-19 lead heading into the halftime break.

The Cyclones couldn't escape the giant chasm of a halftime deficit, although eventually pulling its disadvantage to as much as 47-33, Keith Ruiz and his 15 points weren't enough to pull the defending Nassau County champs from the hole.

Gammy Phillips followed suit for the Middle Bears with 11 points and five rebounds, while Hasahn French pushed double-double status with 8 points and 8 rebounds.

South Side was led with 14 points from Ruiz, while Gerald Mitchell was close behind with 13 points for the Cyclones. Middletown saw every player on its bench get at least a minute of game action.
