Maddy Molinari, Victoria Piscopo and Katie Trombetta were named to the field hockey All-Region team, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced on Tuesday.
Molinari, a Manhasset forward, was Long Island's second leading scorer with 30 points, and her 18 assists were the most. The senior helped lead the Indians to the Nassau Class B championship. Molinari was an All-State and Newsday All-Long Island selection in 2011.
Piscopo, a Garden City midfielder, totaled 13 points, including eight assists. The senior excelled defensively and was a facilitator on offense for the Trojans, who went 15-2 and reached the Nassau Class B final. Last year, Piscopo helped Garden City capture its 18th straight county title en route to the state final.
Trombetta, a Sachem East midfielder, led Long Island with 40 points and 25 goals, and her team to a second consecutive state Class A title. The junior is a member of Team USA's Under-17 squad and, last year, was an All-Region, All-American and Newsday All-Long Island selection.
My in-depth analysis: They’re really good.
Other New Yorkers named to the All-Region team: Emma Anderson, Emily Conroe and Jahna Driscoll of Greene Central School, which beat Southampton in the state Class C final; Rebecca Bard and Gianna Bensaia of Lakeland, which captured a fourth straight state Class B title. Emily Burns and Emma Lamison of Liverpool, which lost to Sachem East in the state final; Gabby Stein and Josie Trichka of Maine-Endwell, which lost in the state Class B semifinals; Jessy Slifer of Cazenovia.
