For a moment it looked like the game between Farmingdale and Freeport would be a tightly contested affair.

And then Isaiah Barnes worked his magic that we’ve become used to seeing from the shifty Freeport quarterback.

On a 1st and 15 from the Farmingdale 20-yard line, Barnes dropped back to pass and started to scramble as Farmingdale put pressure on. The senior quarterback juked and jived his way through the Dalers defense and made his way into the endzone to put the Red Devils up 20-14.

Those six points were the first of 20 unanswered points Freeport wold score in the 3rd quarter as the Red Devils downed Farmingdale, 41-21 in a rematch of last year’s 2010 Conference I final at Mitchel Field.

Following Barnes’ 20-yard scamper, the Red Devils weren’t done. After forcing a Farmingdale punt, the Freeport quarterback called his own number and ran the ball 50-plus yards to put his team in the red zone.

Immediately afterwards, Barnes handed it off to Maurice Irby for a 19-yard touchdown run to give the Red Devils a 27-14 lead. The quarterback then handed it off to Errol Small for a four-yard TD run to complete the 3rd quarter rout and put Freeport up 34-14.

Barnes led the way for the Freeport offense, both on the ground (20 carries, 154 yards, 1 TD) and in the air (12-16, 284 yards, 2 TD), and with the Red Devils down 7-0 entering the second quarter, Barnes didn’t waste any time, connecting with Evan Lapice on a 43-yard pass to bring Freeport even at 7-7.

After Dalique Mingo connected on a 64-yard pass with Richie Morris for Farmingdale to put the Dalers up 14-7, Freeport answered right back as Barnes hurled it out to Jere Brown for 48 yards to bring the Red Devils back even at the half.

Following the Red Devils 20-point romp in the third quarter, Farmingdale tried to make it close, as Justin Martin cut the Freeport lead to 13 points at 34-21.

However Irby would give the Freeport Red Devils its 20-point lead right back on a 27-yard TD run, and finish the game at 41-21 with Freeport on top.
