The Dutchess County Chamber of Commerce's Top 40 Under 40 award has long been considered one of the most prestigious and most honorable awards throughout the region. This award is given to 40 of the top business people and educators under the age of 40 in Dutchess County.
One of this year’s deserving recipients is Marco Lanzoni, the athletic director at Spackenkill High School.
Nominated by Principal Paul Fanuele, Lanzoni has won the 2008 Good Sport Award for New York State Athletic Programs, the 2010 Heart Safe Silver Award, as well as the 2007 Boys Soccer Team State Championship.
While Lanzoni has shown that he’s all about the sports and fun, he also is a key player in the students’ safety, not only in Spackenkill but in the whole section. He has been an intricate part of enforcing a smoke-free policy on school grounds, is certified for CPR, has implemented a staff fitness challenge that includes more than 100 Spackenkill employees from all across the district, is the District Wellness Coordinator, and is the Section 9 Chemical Coordinator.
Lanzoni certainly stands out with his impressive résumé among this group of elite people. But what really separates him from the rest is his passion for helping others.
Whereas you may think that as athletic director Lanzoni only schedules and cancels sports games, he does an astronomical amount of extra work outside his basic job description, exhibiting every day the passion-driven hard work that makes the community go round.
The astounding part of it all is that this work is not only for Spackenkill, but as the Dutchess County community as a whole.
