Chester falls in Class D state final
Letchworth scored a pair of quick first-quarter touchdowns and broke away for a 27-0 victory over Chester in Friday’s New York State Class D state championship at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse.
It was the first state final appearance for Chester, which finished the season 12-1.
Chester senior Saxon Smith ran for 131 yards on 31 carries to finish with a Section 9-record 3,047 yards in 13 games this season.
Clifton Beacon led Letchworth 136 all-purpose yards to earn MVP honors. Chris Nevinger added 173 yards rushing in the victory.
