Hudson Valley Baseball Rankings (5/1)

RANK TEAM REC LW COMMENTS
1 Mamaroneck 10-2 2

The Tigers picked up an impressive win at home on Saturday, knocking off Long Island power Massapequa. They have rival New Rochelle on the schedule twice this week and the Huguenots are eager to finally knock them off.

2 John Jay-EF 8-2 6

Even with Monday’s loss to Ketcham and ace Seth Lamando, the Patriots deserve the No. 2 spot. They have the better team from top to bottom. It will be a matter of avoiding Lamando in the postseason.

3 Ketcham 7-3 4

Monday proved just how good the Indians are when Seth Lamando is on the mound. If they can line their pitching up right for the playoffs, they’ll be primed to make a run at a repeat.

4 Briarcliff 10-1 3

No reason to get too worried about Briarcliff’s loss last week at Nanuet. The Bears were bound to get knocked off at some point. This is still one of the section’s most dangerous lineups.

5 Fox Lane 6-3 5

Fox Lane proved a lot, even to itself, this weekend in the Northeast Elite tournament. They won a low-scoring game with George Washington and showed tremendous resolve in the comeback win over North Rockland.

6 Marlboro 10-0 6

The Iron Dukes should get through the next part of their schedule with no problem and make a serious run at an undefeated regular season. New Paltz on May 9 will be the toughest test.

7 Mahopac 10-0-1 8

Are the Indians still underrated? They may be. Wins like Monday’s over Somers will soon catapult them up the rankings and put them on the short list of title contenders in Class AA.

8 North Rockland 9-3 NR

The Red Raiders are a few outs away from being an 11-1 team and a favorite to win it all in Class AA. They’ve had some trouble defensively and at closing out games. But the signs are there that they’re growing out of it.

9 Iona Prep 9-7 1

The Gaels are in an offensive rut right now and are not winning games they should. They’ll hang on in the rankings out of respect to their deep pitching staff. But if they want to make a run at a Catholic league title, things have to change.

10 New Rochelle 7-1 NR

The rotating No. 10 spot in the rankings goes to the Huguenots, who’ll have two chances to really earn their stripes this week with back to back matchups with rival Mamaroneck.
