MSG Varsity: Hudson Valley girls basketball rankings
1. Ossining: The reigning Class AA champs have the region’s top player in Saniya Chong and a vastly improved supporting cast. Ossining is a Gold Ball favorite.
2. Irvington: There is no bigger favorite to win a Gold Ball than the two-time defending Class B state champions. The Bulldogs have talented trio in Lexi Martins, Brittni Lai and Marley Giddins.
3. Mount Vernon: The Knights have two of Section 1’s best player in point guard Sade King and center Lubirdia Gordon. If they get support, Mount Vernon will challenge Ossining in Class AA.
4. Peekskill: The Red Devils have plenty of spots to fill with four starters gone from a state championship team. But Asia Jackson is a nice player to rebuild around.
5. Pearl River: The loss of point guard Nicole Grossbard to a knee injury is crushing, but the Pirates have so much depth. They’ll find a way.
6. Albertus Magnus: The Falcons have a strong inside presence in Maeve Parahus, a 6-foot center. The guard play will be key to their success.
7. Cornwall: Perhaps the best team in Section 9, Cornwall brings back seven players led by star senior guard Jenna Wood.
8. Tappan Zee: This could be the year the Dutchies take the next step and make a run at a Section 1 Class A title. They were right there with Pearl River and Albertus Magnus last season.
9. Kingston: In a wide-open Class AA field in Section 9, Kingston should almost certainly make a run at an eighth-straight title-game appearance. A championship is not out of the question.
10. Ursuline: The Koalas have had a strong preseason and always are in contention in Class AA. They’re a slight edge here over White Plains.
