FCIAC girls player of the week: Shelly Lindo

McMahon's Shelly Lindo has been named MSG Varsity's male FCIAC Athlete of the Week for May 21-May 26 by a panel of athletic directors and MSG Varsity reporters. Lindo won three gold medals during the FCIAC girls outdoor track and field championships last Tuesday in Danbury. Lindo, a senior, won two sprints — the 100 meter-dash in 12.24 seconds, and the 200-meter dash in 24.83 seconds, and took the top spot in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.46 seconds. Lindo has signed to run at Rhode Island next season.

What's your biggest athletic goal for 2012?
Lindo: "I would like tp finish off strong and continue to lower my times. I'm hoping to break 12 in the 100 and get down to the low 24s in the 200."

Who is your favorite teammate and why?
Lindo: "Sarah Boyd and I both do hurdles, and she's a good partner."

What's the best piece of advice you've received?
Lindo: "Mind over matter. If you're not mentally fit, then you probably aren't ready to compete."

Which athlete is your biggest influence?
Lindo: "Allyson Felix (a two-time Olympic silver medalist in the 200).

What's your proudest accomplishment away from the game?
Lindo: "In track I would have to say breaking the (indoor Class LL) state record in the 55 (with a time of 7.12 seconds this past February).
