Staples volleyball sweeps Central
As the Connecticut high school boys volleyball season begins, teams around the state are looking to improve, win titles and prove this is their chance to shine.
On Wednesday night, a "staple" program in Connecticut volleyball showed they are in the hunt as Staples swept Bridgeport Central in three sets (25-15, 25-12, 25-18).
The Wreckers, known for their aggressive offense and fierce defense used a myriad of players throughout the match as they were not only trying out different players, but trying to fill the void of absent senior captain Jonah Ayelon, who was out visiting colleges for the day.
Two players were able to step up and handle a great deal of the work at both pins. Senior outside hitter David Kalb finished with 12 kills. Though he looked a bit uncomfortable early, Kalb found his footing and began to establish his presence on the outside with great athleticism and awareness of the block.
On the other side was senior opposite Emerson Lovell, who finished with eight kills and made the weak side look strong with his leaping ability and strength behind the ball. Both took this team to new levels on various occasions and showed us all why they will continue to be contenders for the title.
