Aaron Gratch, who has spent the last two years as the head girls basketball coach at Gill St. Bernard’s, is stepping down from that post to take an assistant coaching position with the women’s program at Colgate, pending final approval.

This past season, Gratch, who was named the MSG Varsity Tri-State Coach of the Year, guided Gill to a 29-5 mark that was stamped by the NJSIAA Non-Public B state title and a run to the Tournament of Champions final, where it fell to Manasquan, 67-55.

Gratch, who was an assistant coach for four years under Mergin Sina before replacing him when his predecessor took over the boys program at the Gladstone school, carved a 53-11 record in the past two years, including a Somerset County Tournament title.

Perhaps his finest victory came in this year’s Tournament of Champions. Playing against Shabazz in the semifinal round, Gill trailed by as a much as 23 points midway through the third quarter before storming back to craft arguably the greatest comeback of the T of C era and pull out a 60-56 triumph.
