Welcome to MSGVarsity.com’s Memorable Mondays, a summer-long series that looks back on the top players, games and moments from the past season and gazes ahead to 2012-13. As the summer goes on, we’ll compile all the lists and post them here: www.msgvarsity.com/mondays. New Lists will be posted every Monday at noon.

In Week 2 of Memorable Mondays, we look at five of the best individual performances from New York City high schools.

Rashad Andrews, Boys & Girls: A midseason transfer from national powerhouse St. Anthony’s (NJ), Andrews said he felt right at home playing at Madison Square Garden, helping lead Boys & Girls to a second straight PSAL Class AA title in a 71-67 win over Brooklyn rival Thomas Jefferson. The 6-foot-5 senior exploded for a game-high 26 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field and 5-of-5 from 3-point range to garner MVP honors.

Kadecia Baird, Medgar Evers: Is Baird the country’s top sprinter? The Medgar Evers junior made a good case at the PSAL outdoor championships, winning the 100, 200 and 400 city titles on one special June afternoon on Randall’s Island.

Malik Gill, Mount St. Michael: There’s something about Fordham’s Rose Hill Gym that brings out the best in Malik Gill. The Dartmouth-bound point guard led Mount to the CHSAA Class A title as a junior and scored a game-high 30 points in the finest performance of his stellar high school career in a stunning 64-57 upset victory over two-time defending champion Christ the King in the Class AA intersectional quarterfinals.

Joe Henry, Petrides: The senior running back had a season’s worth of productivity in Petrides’ 46-20 victory over Adlai Stevenson on Oct. 22. Henry had 23 carries for 333 yards and six touchdowns, scoring on runs of 1,4,7,9,16 and 33 yards

Andrew Zapata, Poly Prep: The bigger the game, the better the junior right-hander performs and there was no better example of Zapata’s fortitude than in the NYSAISAA title game. Zapata tossed a one-hitter in a 4-2 win over Fieldston, striking out 12 – including the side in the seventh on just 10 pitches, all fastballs.
