Livecast primer: Mount St. Michael at Fordham
Bronx bragging rights will be on the line when CHSAA foes Fordham Prep takes on Mount St. Michael in a Class AA showdown from Coffey Field live on MSGVarsity.com Friday at 4 p.m.
When the Rams were last on MSGVarsity.com live, they edged St. Raymond in a thriller, winning 4-3 at Richmond County Bank Ballpark on Staten Island April 29.
Fordham Prep won the game on Vinny Capone’s walk-off sacrifice fly to left that scored Mick Regan from third. Three times in the game the Rams rallied from one-run deficits.
The win improved Fordham Prep to 8-0, joining St. Joseph by the Sea and Xaverian as the only undefeated teams in the CHSAA Class AA.
However, Pat Deane’s squad lost its next three games and trailed Archbishop Stepinac 4-0 in the second inning Wednesday.
But the Rams roared back to score 10 unanswered runs for a 14-4 victory at Coffey Field. Ryan Mahoney led the way with three doubles and five RBIs.
On Thursday, Fordham Prep, ranked No. 8 in the city by MSG Varsity, scored four runs in the third and five in the fourth inning to beat Monsignor Farrell, 10-5. Furman-bound Steve Fondu led the way offensively, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Catcher Zach Leone had a double and two RBIs while ace Sean McNamara went the distance, allowing four earned runs on eight hits.
The Rams have a huge showdown with St. Joseph by the Sea on the horizon Saturday in Huguenot, but cannot look past a hungry Mount St. Michael squad.
The Mountaineers have struggled on the mound, but have proven they could swing the sticks, led by standout outfielder Jakeel Daniels. Aaron Sosa, Taylor De La Rosa and Jonathan Cardona can also come up big at the plate, as they proved in an 8-6 win over Salesian April 17 – Mount’s lone win of the year.
Can Mount pull off the upset or will Fordham Prep win its third game in a row following three straight losses? Tune in Friday at 4 p.m. to find out.
