2012 All-New York City boys lacrosse team

FIRST TEAM

PLAYER OF THE YEAR
KENNY COUGHLIN
Tottenville, Sr. A

A four-year, two-sport standout at Tottenville, Coughlin captured the PSAL championship that has eluded him, scoring one goal and assisting on another in the Pirates’ 5-4 win over New Dorp. The senior All-American had 34 goals – his second straight season with 30 or more goals – and 23 assists in league play.

A second team All-City linebacker, Coughlin was named to the New York City squad for the Empire Challenge and will attend Hobart and William Smith Colleges where he will play football and hopefully walk on to the Division I lacrosse team.

CHRIS FIORE
New Dorp, Sr. G

A four-year starter and a two-time All-American, Fiore came into the season with the reputation as the city’s top netminder and he didn’t disappoint in his senior season. He made 195 saves during the regular season and 44 more in the playoffs, a big reason why New Dorp reached the PSAL Class A final. Fiore didn’t just excel as a shot stopper, he was also an excellent distributor.

LOGAN WILLIAMSON
Fordham Prep, Jr. D

Although only a junior, Williamson has already established himself as one of the best defensemen in the city, earning Defensemen of the Year in the CHSAA Class AA by the league coaches. A standout running back on the Fordham Prep football team, Williamson has verbally committed to play lacrosse at Fairfield, choosing the Stags over UMass, Villanova and Dartmouth.

ALEXANDER BECERRA
Tottenville, So. D

The Pirates captured their first PSAL title since 2004, but with Alexander Becerra returning for two more seasons, there’s a good possibility of more titles in Huguenot. The sophomore helped pace a stout defense that allowed just 3.25 goals per game and never more than eight in one contest. It was Becerra who was tasked with shutting down the opponent’s top scorer.

GRADY SMITH
Fieldston, Sr. M

Some players have great scoring touch, others are fantastic distributors and still others are skilled at faceoffs and getting groundballs. Smith can do everything and do it well. The senior middie was second on a stacked Fieldston squad in scoring with 30 goals and 45 assists for 75 points. He had at least one point in every game, including seven (two goals, five assists) against Dalton.

COLUM SLEEPER
Fordham Prep, Sr. M

Sleeper and the Rams didn’t repeat as CHSAA Class AA champions, losing to rival Iona Prep in the championship, but the senior middie had an excellent senior season at Fordham Prep, earning Midfielder of the Year honors by the league coaches. Sleeper was instrumental in a come-from-behind overtime win over the Gaels early in the season and was sorely missed late because of a torn leg tendon.

BEKTOSH AYOOB
Cardozo, Sr. M

After spending his junior season as an apprentice to All-American Jason Chen, Ayoob shined as a senior. The heady, hard-working captain was in the top four in the PSAL’s Championship Division with 36 goals and 20 assists during the regular season and added five more goals and two assists in the postseason as the Judges reached the city semifinals.

MARK RINI
Monsignor Farrell, Sr. M

The senior was Mr. Clutch for the Lions, scoring five goals, including the game-winner with 35.8 seconds left to seal the Lions CHSAA Class A championship over Archbishop Stepinac, the first lacrosse title of any kind at Farrell since 1995. Named Midfielder of the Year in CHSAA Class A by the league coaches, Rini had 48 goals and 17 assists.

BEN ANDREYCAK
Fordham Prep, Sr. A

A two-time All-American, Andreycak had 41 goals and 31 assists during the regular season and had three goals and six assists against Monsignor Farrell to reach the CHSAA Class AA title game where the Rams fell to rival Iona Prep. A solid wide receiver on the Rams football team, Andreycak is one of the best to ever play at Fordham Prep.

TANNER MORRIS
Fieldston, Sr. A

A scoring machine, Morris put the ball into the cage better than most in the city. He had 61 goals and 16 assists during the season, helping pace Fieldston to a second place finish in the Ivy League. In his final game, Morris had three goals and an assist in a 15-5 loss to Hackley in the NYSAISAA title game.

Tottenville

The Pirates were the favorites to win the PSAL Class A title, but that’s nothing new. Tottenville didn’t live up to expectations in previous years, but Haronitis pulled the squad together to win the city crown. The Pirates were the most consistent team throughout the course of the season and that speaks volumes to the job Haronitis and his coaching staff did.
